Rotorua must be the “ Maori Cultural Capital” of New Zealand. Be sure to try a sumptuous Maori “Hangi” (feast) where your food will be prepared in the traditional way, on hot rocks.
The region is also the prime area for seeing the amazing geothermal attractions, being well endowed with beautiful lakes, steaming terraces and spouting geysers. Look carefully and you will find secluded natural hot pools hidden in forests.
Taupo’s splendid outlook over the lake to the majestic mountains beyond is truly a sight to behold. Catch your breath at the magnificent Huka Falls or catch a trout for dinner! Be sure to take one of the many trips on offer to explore some of the largest lake in New Zealand and visit the Maori Rock carvings that can only bee seen from the water.
There is plenty to keep adrenalin junkies going too – jet boating, tandem sky diving, ungy jumping and much more. There are also a surprising number of top quality golf courses here too.
Tackle the awe inspiring Tongariro Crossing or ski the slopes of Mount Ruapehu; you won’t run out of sights to see or things to do.
