Christchurch is definitely open for business! Now in recovery mode from the earthquakes there is plenty to see and do, and so far as accommodation in concerned, it is only a few of the central city hotels that remain closed.
So, come and enjoy the parks and gardens for which the city is renowned.
In fact, some of the recovery initiatives, such as the fascinating “Pop up mall” and the “Cardboard Cathedral” in the central city are attractions in themselves and well worth visiting.
Be sure to put a visit to the Antarctic Centre on your list of “must do’s”. For a superb experience and stunning view of the Southern Alps, take an early morning hot air balloon trip.
Christchurch is the starting point for the famed Trans Alpine train excursion. It is also home to two significant wildlife reserves, at Orana Park and Willowbank.
Notable golf courses abound and Banks Peninsular will captivate you too. In fact you might want to overnight in picturesque Akaroa with its fine cafes, restaurants and dolphin experience trips.
