There are two distinct sides to Marlborough: the magical waterways of the Marlborough Sounds and the wine country of Blenheim. Be sure to experience them both.
Many visitors to the South Island enjoy the interisland ferry trip, either arriving in or departing from the picturesque port town of Picton. While this gives a glimpse of the stunning Marlborough Sounds scenery, spending a bit of extra time and exploring further will definitely reward.
Charter a launch or yacht to cruise the waterways and discover quiet, secluded bays for your anchorage, or take one of the many commercial launch trips for a few hours or to experience a stay at a romantic waterfront lodge with no road access. The famed Queen Charlotte Walking Track winds its way through the forests and above the bays; and be sure to visit Captain Cook’s favourite spot in New Zealand – Ship Cove.
Head for the wine country surrounding Blenheim and sample the fabulous wines including the world beating Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs. You can even tour the vineyards by bike!
You will want to stay a while so make yourself comfortable as you choose your Marlborough accommodation from a huge range of hotels, motels, motor inns and luxury boutique accommodation, or experience Kiwi hospitality in homes offering Bed & Breakfast, farmstays and homestays.
