Some say that Dunedin is more Scottish than Scotland! Watch the “scarfies” as they scurry around the vibrant university campus and browse the bookshops in the central city Octagon.
Out on the Peninsular you will be captivated by the Royal Albatross colony. There are marvellous penguin watching opportunities too.
Inland, you could try cycling the Central Otago Rail Trail or take the stunning backcountry trip via Dansey’s Pass and Naseby. This is rugged pioneer gold mining country steeped in history with spectacular scenery to entrance you.
The elegant town of Oamaru features some of New Zealand’s best examples of 19th centurary architecture. Oamaru is also renowned for its penguin colonies and was the town in which the author Jant Frame grew up. Oamaru is almost certainly the town of "Waimaru" in her writings.

Centrewood is an easy 40 minute drive from Dunedin, home of Otago University, the Forsyth Bar covered rugby stadium and Speights Brewery. Centrewood is also close to Moeraki with its famous boulders and Mcraes Gold Mine.
Locally are seals and penguins, with wonderful native bird life in the grounds. Centrewood is a gardeners paradise with plentiful roses, rhododendrons and daffodils, as well as being a lifestyle farm. The homestead is over 100 years old and is a splendid example of the grandeur of yesteryear.
The guest wing has a log burner for cosy winter evenings as well as a heat pump. The west facing verandah is great for enjoying al fresco drinks and nibbles on summer evenings. No other guests to intrude on your privacy. Afternoon tea on arrival with homemade scones and cakes is available on request.
Our Bed and Breakfast option has continental breakfast provisions provided (including croissants and muesli) and other meals and provisions are available at Palmerston or Waikouaitai (10 mins each).
Self Catering option -
The guest wing has a kitchen with fridge-freezer, cooktop and microwave and is a great option for people wishing to be self sufficient.
Supplies are available at Palmerston only 10 minutes away, or Breakfast provisions are available as an extra if required.
